Acknowledgement of Country

This land where our school now stands is called ‘Wittonga’.
It was once a place of still waters, reed beds and abundant wildlife: freshwater turtles, wedge-tailed eagles and red kangaroos. It is the home of the traditional owners, the Kaurna people.
We honour the Kaurna people, their language, their elders, and their land.
We honour the spirit of the land that lives on through the roads, the buildings, and the concrete now covering Wittonga.
We acknowledge the importance of the Aboriginal wisdom that declares: ‘We belong to the earth; the earth does not belong to us,’ a wisdom that has sustained life and country for thousands of years.
We respect the special connection that the Kaurna people have with Wittonga, as the traditional caretakers.
We are ALL connected to this land, so let’s create, learn and celebrate together.
